21st Board of Directors Meeting of the Arab Federation of Shipping – November 4, 2024

The Arab Federation of Shipping (AFOS) held its 21st Board of Directors meeting on November 4, 2024, under the chairmanship of Mr. Mohamed Suleiman Metwally, President of the Federation. The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Moskah, Head of the Investment Sector – Federation Administration at the Council of Arab Economic Unity, representing the Secretary-General of the Council, as well as Mr. Mohamed Mostafa Aitani, Secretary-General of the Federation, and the members of the Board of Directors. Additionally, new members joining the Federation were welcomed, including Rear Admiral Mohamed Tarek Abbas, Chairman and Managing Director of the Egyptian Maritime Transport Company (Martrans), and Engineer Ahmed Al-Akkad, Chairman and Managing Director of Mahoney Shipping and Marine Services.

The meeting also hosted distinguished guests, including Rear Admiral Essam Badawy, Secretary-General of the Arab Sea Ports Federation; Rear Admiral Reda Ismail, Advisor to the Egyptian Minister of Transport; and Professor Mostafa Rasheed, Assistant President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport for Arab Affairs.

The session was opened by the Federation’s President, who welcomed the attendees and highlighted the efforts made in recent months to strengthen the Federation’s role in supporting and developing Arab shipowners. He emphasized that while significant progress has been achieved, further efforts and innovative ideas are needed to accomplish the Federation’s objectives and aspirations.

The meeting proceeded with discussions on the agenda items, the approval of the minutes from the 20th Board of Directors session held on March 5, 2024, and deliberations on key decisions. Special recognition was given to the newly inducted members, including Rear Admiral Mohamed Tarek Abbas of Martrans, Engineer Ahmed Abdelkader Mohamed Al-Akkad of Mahoney Shipping and Marine Services, and Engineer Mostafa Al-Mulla, Chairman of Bosphorus Shipping.

In his address, Mr. Mohamed Mostafa Aitani, Secretary-General of the Federation, welcomed the members and guests and provided an overview of the Federation’s recent activities and participation efforts.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed the ongoing development of the Federation’s official website and the services it offers. A presentation was also delivered on the impact of Red Sea attacks on the maritime shipping market.

The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude to the attendees, with the next meeting scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the upcoming MARLOG conference.
