The Arab Federation of Maritime Transport was established on April 11, 1979, by the committee of authorized representatives from the following entities: the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Syrian Arab Republic, the Republic of Iraq, Palestine, the Libyan Arab People’s Democratic Jamahiriya, the Jordan National Shipping Lines, the United Arab Shipping Company, the Arab Maritime Petroleum Transport Company, and the Council of Arab Economic Unity; Its original headquarters was located in Baghdad.
