The Arab Federation of Shipping (AFOS), currently presided over by Mr. Mohamed Suleiman Metwally, Managing Director of National Navigation Company, participated in the 30th Board of Directors and General Assembly meeting of the Arab Federation of Chambers of Shipping. The event was held at the Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel in Cairo on November 19, 2024.
The meeting commenced with a welcome speech by Mr. Mohamed Moselhy, President of the Arab Federation of Chambers of Shipping, followed by remarks from Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Moskah, Head of the Investment Sector – Federation Administration, representing the Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity. In his speech, he emphasized the crucial role of the Federation as a platform for discussing industry developments and challenges. He also stressed the importance of coordination and integration among all Arab maritime entities, including ports and maritime service companies, to maximize the potential of this sector, given the Arab world’s strategic geographical position at the heart of global maritime trade routes.
The session featured several presentations delivered by distinguished participants, including Dr. Sara El-Gazzar, Dean of the College of International Transport and Logistics in Alexandria and Observer Member of the Arab Federation of Chambers of Shipping at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport; Dr. Emad Hamdi Fawaz, Head of the Economic Unit at the Suez Canal Authority; Engineer Medhat El-Kady, Vice President of the Federation; and Mr. Walid Badr, Secretary-General of the Federation. These presentations were followed by insightful discussions among the attendees, enriching the dialogue on key maritime issues.
