Participation of the Arab Federation of Shipping in the Arab Dialogue Circle on Artificial Intelligence

The Arab Federation of Shipping participated in the Arab Dialogue Circle on Artificial Intelligence, held in Cairo at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on February 2-3, 2025. The event was held under the patronage of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and with the participation of a group of experts and specialists, delegated by Dr. Mohamed Awad, Director of Planning and Research, on behalf of the President of the Federation.

The session was opened by Prof. Dr. Mostafa Rashid, Assistant President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, followed by official speeches from Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport; Prof. Dr. Abdul Majeed bin Abdullah Al-Bunyan, President of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences; Mr. Mohamed Al-Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament; Prof. Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Arab Republic of Egypt; the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit; Prof. Dr. Tarek Al-Abadi, Founder and CEO of IN30 InspireNex30, former Executive Director of Digital Transformation for Emerging Markets at Microsoft; and Prof. Dr. Juan Manuel Corchado, President of the University of Salamanca in Spain. The speeches addressed the importance of artificial intelligence in supporting digital transformations and enhancing innovation in the Arab region. The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, announced the commencement of the Dialogue Circle, emphasizing the need to unify Arab efforts to adopt integrative strategies in this field.

Topics discussed included recent innovations in artificial intelligence, AI in diplomacy and peacekeeping, ethics of AI use, reviewing AI development strategies in the Arab world, and the role of governments and academic institutions in supporting it. The importance of developing specialized educational programs and encouraging investment in startups working in AI technologies was also highlighted.

The events concluded with a session chaired by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, where the “Historical Document on Artificial Intelligence in the Arab World” was announced. This document included strategies to enhance innovation, develop a unified vision, and establish legislative frameworks for AI governance.
