The Arab Federation of Shipping (AFOS) participated in the 60th periodic meeting of the Specialized Arab Federations Forum operating under the Council of Arab Economic Unity. The session was held at the Marriott Hotel in Cairo on November 3, 2024. AFOS was represented by Dr. Mohamed Awad, Director of Planning and Research, who attended on behalf of the Federation’s President, alongside Mr. Mohamed Aitani, Secretary-General of AFOS, and Mr. Abdelghani Al-Gharib, Assistant Secretary-General for the host country.
The session was inaugurated by Professor Jawad Ghanem Al-Shehaily, President of the Union of Arab Accountants and Auditors, who welcomed the attendees, country representatives, and heads of federations affiliated with the Council. His remarks were followed by a speech from H.E. Ambassador Mohamedi Ahmed Al-Ni, Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity. Ambassador Al-Ni extended his gratitude to H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, and emphasized the importance of coordination and integration among all entities affiliated with the General Secretariat, particularly the specialized federations. He highlighted that such collaboration enhances the added value for participating countries and benefits the entire Arab region.
The session then provided an opportunity for participants to discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by their respective federations. The meeting concluded with expressions of appreciation to the attendees, with a particular emphasis on the value of the working papers presented and the importance of following up on their recommendations.
