ESCWA Transport and Logistics Committee Meetings in Damascus

Responding to an official invitation from the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Mr. Mohammed Mustafa Itani, Secretary-General of the Arab Federation of Chamber of Shipping, participated in the 26th session of the Transport and Logistics Committee.

These significant meetings took place on November 25 and 26, 2025, at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic, under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Eng. Yaaroub Suleiman Badr, the Syrian Minister of Transport.

The sessions witnessed broad and active participation from official delegations and regional experts, alongside representatives from regional and international organizations operating in the transport and logistics sectors.

The core discussions focused on approving the agenda, implementing work program activities, and advancing technical cooperation. Participants dedicated substantial time to reviewing the implementation of recommendations issued during the committee’s 25th session to the ESCWA Executive Secretariat.

Furthermore, they thoroughly examined member states’ adherence to these recommendations and evaluated the latest developments and emerging trends within the regional transport and logistics sectors.

Reflecting the Federation’s commitment to fostering mutual cooperation, Secretary-General Mr. Itani submitted an official memorandum to the Syrian Minister of Transport. Dated November 10, 2025 (Reference No. 98/2025), the memorandum was officially registered at the Syrian Ministry of Transport under No. 1719/T1 on November 25, 2025, aiming to institutionalize cooperation and explore future avenues for joint action.
